Characterization of pottery shard based on stereomicroscopy. The observations takes in consideration the outer part (front), inner part (back) and the cross section of the shard, characterizing the clay matrix, inclusions and other peculiarities.

SURFACE - general observations
Pale grey to white paste
Roughness and encrustation especially in the front
Clay particles sintering on both surfaces
SECTION- general observations
Sandwich layering (not visible in all sections): inner part gray outer portions whitish
Presence of cavities in the section
INCLUSIONS- general observations
Abundance in black sub-millimetric dimensions inclusions with different shapes: rounded, spherical, elongated or irregular. Smaller amount of white inclusions, sub-millimetric dimensions. Similar features on both surfaces
